The Toronto Blue Jays have had several months to process their devastating World Series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, but some moments from that Game 7 defeat remain difficult to forget.
For Blue Jays fans, few plays are more painful to recall than Andy Pages’ game-saving catch in the bottom of the ninth inning of that final game. With the score tied and the bases loaded, Ernie Clement appeared to have lifted a ball that could have won the World Series for the Blue Jays. Instead, Pages raced over and made an unforgettable grab near the wall.
“The Dodgers won last year’s World Series to go back-to-back as champions, with perhaps the most pivotal moment coming via center fielder (and wise defensive substitute) Andy Pages’ series-saving grab in the ninth inning of Game 7,” ESPN’s JJ Post reported as the Dodgers celebrated the moment with a bobblehead giveaway this season. “Los Angeles left fielder Enrique Hernández tracked the ball near the wall before being posterized by Pages, who ran over his teammate to secure the inning-ending.”
The play created an iconic image of Pages leaping over his own teammate that remains so unforgettable that even former Blue Jays players find themselves still tortured by it months later.

Ricky Romero, who spent his entire major league career with Toronto and earned an American League All-Star selection with the Blue Jays in 2011, recently demonstrated how that catch can still cause heartbreak.
While visiting Los Angeles, the former pitcher was seated at a restaurant beneath artwork depicting Pages’ famous catch. He promptly shared an explicit reaction to the reminder.
“Got sat here at a restaurant in LA and this is where they sat me,” Romero shared on X, alongside a picture of a restaurant wall with a drawing of Pages’ Game 7 catch. “My wife (asked) ‘why do you keep looking at the wall?!’… me- ‘How the f**k was that catch made? Still traumatized!’”
Los Angeles Dodgers Catch Continues To Haunt Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto’s loss was especially painful because the championship appeared within reach several times during a remarkable Game 7, following a magical run to the American League pennant.
“In a World Series for the ages, and a Game 7 never to be duplicated, the Blue Jays prevented their own championship by holding Isiah Kiner-Falefa too close to third base,” the Toronto Sun’s Steve Simmons recalled. “And right after that, with another chance to book a parade, Pages made a catch that will never be forgotten.”
Romero knows something about the highs and lows of playing in Toronto. He emerged as a key part of the Blue Jays’ rotation after making his debut in 2009 and developed into one of the club’s most important pitchers before earning his All-Star nod two years later.
His career ultimately ended after the 2013 season, but his connection to the franchise remains.
That makes his reaction to Pages’ catch particularly fitting. The former All-Star experienced the kind of baseball heartbreak that can linger long after the final out, and apparently, even a restaurant wall in Los Angeles is enough to bring it all back.
