The next few weeks on the Billboard charts will be huge for Dolly Parton’s catalog. The singer-songwriter had already charted dozens of hits and many bestselling albums throughout her decades-long career, but following her passing, sales and streams of many of her most popular tunes and collections exploded. That is a common sight whenever a beloved musical act passes away, as Parton did at the age of 80 after a short and private battle with cancer.
Parton scores several new hits on Billboard’s two worldwide tallies this week. The Billboard Global 200 looks at consumption around the planet, including activity in the United States, while the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. removes American sales and streams from the equation – and the county powerhouse posthumously earns new wins on both rosters simultaneously.
The rankings were inaugurated in 2020, by which point Parton’s commercial heyday had passed. Like many artists who enjoyed scoring hits decades ago, her music is now playing catch-up, and this frame turns out to be her biggest yet on the related lists.
Dolly Parton Debuts Three Hits on the Global Chart
Before this week, Parton had never appeared on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. Now she debuts three tunes on the ranking at once. “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and “Islands in the Stream” with Kenny Rogers launch at Nos. 70, 136 and 141, respectively.
Dolly Parton Has Now Charted Seven Billboard Global 200 Hits
Parton has racked up seven career wins on the Billboard Global 200. It is not surprising that she performs better on that ranking, since sales and streams from American consumers are factored into where a tune lands — or whether it debuts at all.
Before this week, only a pair of singles credited to Parton had reached the Billboard Global 200. She first appeared on the roster in April 2024 alongside Beyoncé. The multi-genre superstar recruited Parton for “Tyrant,” which spent one week on the ranking at No. 64. Parton was not credited on Beyoncé’s reworking of “Jolene,” which became an even bigger smash.
Only a few months later, the celebrated performer doubled her number of Billboard Global 200 hits. “Have the Heart,” a collaboration with Post Malone featured on his first country album F-1 Trillion, opened at No. 136 before quickly disappearing.
Dolly Parton Debuts Five Songs at Once
This frame, five Parton smashes launch on the Billboard Global 200, and several immediately become the highest-charting wins of her career. “Jolene,” “9 to 5,” “Islands in the Stream” with Rogers, “I Will Always Love You” and “Here You Come Again” debut at Nos. 16, 25, 43, 55 and 133, respectively.
“Jolene” Becomes Dolly Parton’s Biggest Global Hit
Before this week, No. 64 was as high as Parton had climbed on the Billboard Global 200, thanks to her “Tyrant” collaboration with Beyoncé. Now, several of her own classics outperform that team-up. “Jolene,” perhaps Parton’s signature single, leads the charge at No. 16. The decades-old favorite comes within only a few spaces of the top 10 as it immediately becomes her highest-charting hit ever on the worldwide tally.
