Following her passing last month, Dolly Parton’s music is experiencing a major comeback in terms of consumption, and her name is splashed across charts all around the world. The country powerhouse died unexpectedly at the age of 80 after battling cancer without letting her fans know how dire her health situation had become.
Notably, in these earliest days of mourning, Parton’s chart comeback seems to be most impressive in the United Kingdom, though she may continue to fill rosters in America for weeks, if not months, to come. Across the Atlantic this frame, more than a dozen albums by Parton are present on at least one chart, with almost all of them returning to ranking, while some debut on lists as well.
Diamonds & Rhinestones Returns to Five Charts
Diamonds & Rhinestones – Greatest Hits may be the biggest piece of Parton’s chart story this week. The compilation appears on six U.K. rankings and returns to five of them. It breaks back onto the Official Albums Streaming and Official Albums charts at Nos. 4 and 6, respectively, reaching new peaks on both lists simultaneously.
Diamonds & Rhinestones also returns to the Official Physical Albums, Official Albums Sales and Official Album Downloads charts, landing at Nos. 38, 40 and 43, respectively. On the one ranking where it does not need to reappear, the Official Country Compilations chart, the set surges from No. 7 to No. 2, nearly reconquering the roster.
The Very Best Of Returns to No. 1
The Very Best Of also finds its way back to five U.K. charts, though its return looks somewhat different. The collection reenters the Official Country Compilations chart at No. 1, stopping Parton’s own Diamonds & Rhinestones from finding its way back to the throne.
The Very Best Of also returns at No. 1 on the Official Album Downloads chart. As the compilation reenters the tally, it becomes Parton’s first leader on the ranking. The compilation reaches a new peak of No. 12 on the Official Albums Sales tally, missing the top 10 by only a few spaces, while it also surging to Nos. 46 and 73 on the Official Albums and Official Physical Albums charts, respectively.
Two More Dolly Parton Albums Return to Multiple Charts
Two additional Parton projects bound back onto a pair of rankings apiece. Rockstar reenters the Official Album Downloads and Official Albums Sales charts at Nos. 8 and 98, respectively.
Smoky Mountain DNA – Family, Faith and Fables also mounts a two-chart comeback. The project can be found on the Official Country Compilations and Official Americana charts, where it settles in at Nos. 7 and 33, respectively.
Dolly Parton Scores Even More Comebacks
There are several other Parton collections that manage to return to only one ranking across the Atlantic this week. On the Official Country Compilations chart, The Essential, Live From London, Ultimate, Greatest Hits and Dolly reenter at Nos. 3, 4, 6, 11 and 19, respectively.
The Official Album Downloads chart welcomes back The Grass Is Blue and The Complete Trio Collection – which also credits both Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris – at Nos. 46 and 47, respectively. The Complete Trio Collection is also already present on the country compilations tally, and this frame it vaults from No. 14 to No. 5.
Some of these titles also appear on additional rosters, and a few debut and give Parton new posthumous wins. The Essential, Ultimate and Greatest Hits launch on the Official Album Downloads ranking at Nos. 18, 33 and 82, respectively, while My Tennessee Mountain Home also debuts on the ranking at No. 94.
Little Sparrow Becomes Another New Dolly Parton Hit
Little Sparrow appears on only one U.K. tally this period, but its arrival is an important one. The set gives Parton yet another new chart entry as it debuts at No. 75 on the Official Album Downloads chart.
