Every week that “Choosin’ Texas” has appeared on the Billboard charts has been a big one for the country cut, but the last several frames have been historic. It was less than a month ago that the smash tied Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” as the longest-running No. 1 of all time on the Billboard Hot 100.
One frame later, “Choosin’ Texas” passed that holiday carol while simultaneously matching a pair of tunes by the biggest name in K-pop to become the longest-running leader ever on the Digital Song Sales chart. The career-defining hit continues its previously-unknown run this week, and it remains unbeatable.
As “Choosin’ Texas” leads multiple rankings yet again, including the purchase-only tally, Ella Langley resets records once more and even manages to pass one of the bestselling musical acts of the past decade.
“Choosin’ Texas” Becomes the First 19-Week Sales No. 1
“Choosin’ Texas” is once again the No. 1 bestselling track in the nation, and the tune leads the Digital Song Sales chart for a nineteenth frame. Luminate reports that the country blockbuster sold another 9,300 copies in the most recent tracking period, specifically on platforms like iTunes, Amazon and others.
That figure is up by more than 3,000 purchases from the stint prior, a huge gain considering “Choosin’ Texas” sold only around 6,000 copies last week. As it refuses to budge, Langley’s career-defining smash becomes the first composition to command the Digital Song Sales roster for 19 frames.
Ella Langley Breaks BTS’s Record
As Langley settles at No. 1 again, BTS no longer claims the longest-running leader in the history of the Digital Song Sales chart, a feat the South Korean boy band had owned for more than half a decade – and with a pair of smashes, no less.
The Grammy-nominated group first racked up an 18-week champion with “Dynamite,” which opened at the summit in 2020 and finished its then-record-improving run the following year. Only a short time after “Dynamite” stepped aside from the peak position for good, BTS scored another blockbuster with “Butter.” That cut also managed 18 weeks at No. 1 throughout the calendar year 2021.
Morgan Wallen Misses out on Another Leader by One Spot
There’s a new runner-up on this week’s Digital Song Sales chart, and it’s a musician Langley knows well. Morgan Wallen’s latest single “Last Thing You Need” rises from No. 4, where it started in the frame prior, to No. 2.
Langley blocks him from scoring another champion this week. “Last Thing You Need” sold 5,200 copies, according to Luminate, a figure that is up almost 100% from the prior period.
While “Choosin’ Texas” is not selling tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of copies each week — that’s simply not where the music business is these days — it is clear there’s no real competition for the throne at the moment. From time to time, the country track does step aside as other tunes soar to the peak position, or more often than not launch there, but it usually doesn’t take long before Langley is back in charge.
“Choosin’ Texas” could easily command the Digital Song Sales ranking again next week, becoming the first 20-frame ruler. At this point, there’s no telling how much longer it will reign supreme, and that statement doesn’t apply only to the purchase-centric tally.
“Choosin’ Texas” Rules Five Billboard Charts
As has been the case for months now, “Choosin’ Texas” appears on 11 Billboard charts this frame, and it sits at No. 1 on many of them. In addition to the Digital Song Sales roster, the smash commands the Streaming Songs, Hot Country Songs and Country Streaming Songs rankings, as well as the most important of the bunch, the Billboard Hot 100. The blockbuster also sits at No. 2 on the Billboard Global 200, No. 3 on the Radio Songs tally and reaches a new high of No. 31 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S.
Ella Langley Claims Five Bestsellers This Week
“Choosin’ Texas” is not Langley’s only bestseller at the moment. In fact, the country star occupies five spaces on the Digital Song Sales chart this week.
“You Look Like You Love Me,” her collaboration with Riley Green, returns at No. 10. “Be Her” holds at No. 14, while “I Can’t Love You Anymore” sits one rung lower at No. 15. “Jaded,” Langley’s collaboration with Koe Wetzel, rounds out her performance this time around at No. 22, while “Choosin’ Texas” continues to beat them all.
