Gloria Steinem, one of the most influential figures in the modern feminist movement and longtime journalist, died at the age of 92 at her home in New York City on Wednesday.

In an official announcement made on her Instagram page, Steinem’s foundation said she “passed away peacefully at her home” on Wednesday, surrounded by “some of the many who loved her.”
“Gloria lived true to her independent spirit, always with curiosity and a great sense of humor,” the statement added.
The post urged people who wish to honor Steinem to donate to her foundation “in lieu of flowers.”
