Many of the albums that have spent the greatest number of frames on the Billboard 200 – the ranking of the most-consumed projects of any style in the United States – are compilations. Continued purchases by casual fans of one greatest hits collection or another, as well as nonstop streams of the biggest songs by many major players in the music industry, have kept quite a few compilations on the tally for years, if not a decade or more.
That trend is not likely to change. Now that the Billboard 200 incorporates plays on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music and others — a change that was made many years ago now — popular albums seem to stick around for longer and longer stretches. Only a handful of releases that have spent a decade or more as one of the 200 most-consumed collections in the U.S. are traditional studio LPs. One of the bestselling and most successful of the bunch reaches a notable milestone this frame, one which only a little more than a dozen releases in American history have experienced.
Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours Reaches 700 Weeks
Rumours celebrates 700 weeks on the Billboard 200 this time around. Fleetwood Mac’s blockbuster slips only one space from No. 29 to No. 30 as it reaches the landmark, somehow maintaining its status as a top 40 performer decades after its release.
Rumours Is Only the Fourteenth Album to Hit 700 Weeks
Rumours becomes only the fourteenth album to spend at least 700 weeks on the Billboard 200. Less than a month ago, Drake’s Take Care joined the club, and earlier this year, Queen’s Greatest Hits did the same.
Before the end of 2026, there may be a fifteenth title that reaches the landmark as well. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Greatest Hits only needs about 15 more stints on the Billboard 200 to make it to 700 frames.
Six 700-Week Albums Are Greatest Hits Collections
Half a dozen of the 14 albums that have spent 700 weeks or more on the Billboard 200 are compilations. That group includes Legend by Bob Marley and the Wailers, Journey’s Greatest Hits, Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Chronicle: The 20 Greatest Hits, Eminem’s Curtain Call: The Hits, another Greatest Hits, from Guns N’ Roses, and the aforementioned and final Greatest Hits by Queen.
The traditional albums that reached 700 weeks before Rumours include Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, Metallica’s self-titled release, Bruno Mars’s debut Doo-Wops & Hooligans, Nirvana’s Nevermind, Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, M.A.A.D City and Take Care.
Rumours Appears on Six Billboard Charts
Rumours lives on half a dozen Billboard rankings this week and it loses ground on half of them. The set declines on the Billboard 200, Top Album Sales and Vinyl Albums charts, while holding steady on the Top Streaming Albums, Top Rock Albums and Top Rock & Alternative Albums rosters.
Even as it backtracks on a handful of lists, Rumours remains a top 10 win on both of the rock-focused rankings. The full-length holds at No. 5 on the Top Rock Albums chart and No. 6 on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums roster.
Fleetwood Mac Charts Two Albums in America
Fleetwood Mac has two albums charting in America at the moment. The band’s Greatest Hits, which features many of the songs also included on Rumours, is on the downswing everywhere it appears. Greatest Hits steps back on the Billboard 200, Top Album Sales, Vinyl Albums, Top Rock Albums and Top Rock & Alternative Albums charts – almost all of the same tallies as Rumours.
