The Pitt fans, as they often are, have been sent into a frenzy over the news that in a recent interview with Bustle, Dr. Victoria Javadi actress Shabana Azeez, confirmed a big change about her role in season 3:
“I can say that I’m not in the ER this season. I’ve done my ER rotation, so I’m doing my psychiatry rotation.”
Now, The Pitt fans have latched onto this, taking this singular quote and blasting it across social media to proclaim another beloved character has been written out of the show. But that does not appear to be the case.
As the interview continues, it is made clear that Javadi will still be on the show:
“It’s a very different vibe for me. And I’m scared and nervous. But it’s an honor to be able to show that part of medicine.”
Previously, Noah Wyle explained to Vanity Fair why a field like psychiatry would be key to season 3:
“Season 3 is the doctor is the patient. Season 2, doctors don’t make good patients. Season 3, doctors benefit from being patients,” he said. “So that’s really where our head is at now: We’re watching this mental health journey take place from total denial to acceptance of a problem to baby steps up and out of his proverbial pit. That’s what we’re working on.”
Really, both of the last two seasons have been heavily focused on Dr. Robbie’s mental health especially, but now it appears season 3 will dive deeper into that. And if that’s true, it seems likely that Javadi will play a key role. She will not be written out off the show, nor is there any indication that her role will be reduced, so fans are likely nervous over nothing.
This does, however, come in the wake of another popular character exiting the show, Dr. Samirah Mohan, played by Supriya Ganesh. There were rumors of behind-the-scenes drama, which the cast shot down, and her leaving reflects the show’s “revolving door” philosophy due to the nature of medicine. Mohan, especially, spent two seasons figuring out that high-intensity, fast-moving ER life was not for her. It was implied she might be better suited for a career in geriatrics. Not as an insult, but she is genuinely good with older patients. So it makes sense she’s not going to be there for yet another round of stress.
A certain subset of The Pitt fans seems desperate to latch onto anything resembling drama without considering context or in this case, facts, failing to read a secondary quote even two paragraphs later in the original interview. Javadi will stay, and if anything, it seems she may be even more important than ever.
