J. Cole returned earlier this year with The Fall Off, a long-awaited project and his seventh full-length on his own. The double album features 24 tracks and includes collaborations with artists like Future, Tems, Erykah Badu, Burna Boy and a lesser-known act named PJ. Cole and PJ jointly score a new No. 1 this week, while several other favorites among fans of the rap superstar return to multiple tallies in America and become streaming wins once more.
J. Cole and PJ’s “Legacy” Reaches No. 1
“Legacy,” Cole’s team-up with the simply-named PJ, rises one spot on the Rhythmic Airplay chart and becomes a champion 16 weeks into its run on the tally. The ranking measures the most-played and most-heard tracks at rhythmic radio stations throughout the United States, where pop, R&B and hip-hop frequently mix. “Legacy” appears to give PJ a first No. 1, while Cole collects his fourth ruler.
J. Cole Has Scored Four Rhythmic Airplay No. 1s
Of Cole’s quartet of rulers on the Rhythmic Airplay chart, all but one have led the charge for only a single period. “Legacy” joins both “Work Out” and “Middle Child,” which dominated in 2011 and 2019, respectively.
Only a few summers ago, Cole scored his first leader as a featured artist alongside Lil Durk on the latter’s “All My Life.” That cut debuted on the Rhythmic Airplay chart in May 2023, and by early July began its month-long run at the summit.
J. Cole’s “Legacy” Appears on Five Billboard Charts
“Legacy” appears on five rankings published by Billboard, though it only climbs on the Rhythmic Airplay tally. The track holds at its all-time high of No. 9 on the Rap Airplay chart and reenters the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs ranking in last place, at No. 50, after once topping out at No. 14. As it grows on the Rhythmic Airplay list, “Legacy” also falls on both the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay rundowns.
Two J. Cole Classics Return Together
Two classics from within Cole’s discography return to the same two tallies and sit very close to one another. “No Role Modelz” and “Power Trip,” a collaboration with Miguel, both find their way back to the same two Billboard tallies – ones powered exclusively by plays on platforms like Spotify in the U.S. alone.
“No Role Modelz” misses the top 10 on the Rap Streaming Songs chart by only one space, instead breaking back in at No. 11. The tune comes in several spots lower at No. 18 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs tally.
“Power Trip,” meanwhile, isn’t far behind. It returns to the Rap Streaming Songs rundown at No. 13 and reenters the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart at No. 24. The latter ranking tracks the most-played cuts in hip-hop, rap and R&B throughout the U.S. on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music and others. This marks only the second time that “Power Trip” has ever appeared on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs ranking. The cut debuted and, so far, peaked at No. 4.
