It’s been less than two years since Billboard inaugurated its Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart, a ranking of the most popular tracks that straddle the line between those two styles. For years, pop stars would invade the dance and electronic rankings with massive wins, including stars like Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Rihanna and more. Then the electronic-leaning tallies began embracing more obscure artists, while the more dance-focused cuts from superstars couldn’t find the same footing on pop tallies.
Billboard also does not publish some of the same style rosters in the pop field as it does in other genres, as there is no list for pop tunes on streaming sites or general consumption. There is no Hot Pop Songs rundown these days.
Miley reaches the Hot Dance/Pop Songs register for the first time and nearly conquers it on her inaugural visit with the first taste of a newly released album.
Miley Nearly Rules the Hot Dance/Pop Songs Chart
“Bass Persuades” almost rules the Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart as it arrives. The cut – the first single from the newly-released album of the same name – opens at No. 2, bringing Miley into the top 10 and almost to the peak position on her inaugural trip to the tally.
“Bass Persuades” Leads This Week’s Debuts
The Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart features only 15 spaces, and three of them are occupied by debuts. Miley collects the loftiest of the bunch this time around. Newcomer Adela starts her tune “Boys” at No. 8. Blackpink member Jisoo lands in the lowest rung at No. 15 with a solo tune titled “Click.”
Miley Debuts Her New Single at No. 2 on Two Charts
“Bass Persuades” does not open at No. 1 on any Billboard roster, but it does sit at No. 2 on a pair of them. In addition to the Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart, Miley’s latest single comes in second place on the Digital Song Sales tally.
On that roster, it trails Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas,” which earns a seventeenth stint at No. 1. As “Choosin’ Texas” reaches that figure, it matches with “Despacito” by Daddy Yankee, Luis Fonsi and Justin Bieber as the third-longest-running ruler ever.
“Bass Persuades” Debuts on Nine Billboard Rankings
“Bass Persuades” launches on nine Billboard charts this week, and it’s a top 40 hit almost everywhere. The track misses that region on both the Streaming Songs roster and Billboard Global Excl. U.S., but otherwise becomes a quick winner. Miley’s latest opens inside the top 10 on three rankings, including its No. 3 start on the Dance Streaming Songs list.
