Three of HYBE’s most prominent girl groups are joining forces. LE SSERAFIM, ILLIT, and KATSEYE will be releasing a special collaboration digital single titled “ICONIC BY MISTAKE” on June 12 at 1pm KST. The official music video will be pre-released on June 11 at midnight KST, and the three groups will perform the song live on Mnet’s M Countdown on June 11 ahead of its official release.
What We Know About “Iconic By Mistake”
Beyond the title, the promotion schedule, and the logo motion teaser released alongside the announcement, specific details about the track — its sound, who wrote it, and what it is about — have not yet been confirmed and this piece will be updated accordingly. What the teaser does establish is a shared visual identity across all three groups for this project, suggesting a coordinated creative direction rather than a loosely assembled compilation.

The group became one of 2024’s most commercially successful K-pop debuts, topping the Gaon Digital Chart and generating significant international streaming figures with their debut single “Magnetic.”

KATSEYE are the six-member — currently performing as five, with Manon Bannerman on hiatus — global girl group formed under HYBE x Geffen Records, who recently swept all three of their nominations at the 52nd American Music Awards and are preparing for the release of their third EP Wild in August and the WILDWORLD Tour across the UK, Europe, and North America this fall.
The History Behind Intra-Label K-Pop Collabs
Cross-group collaborations within K-pop are not new, but they have historically been more common between acts on the same label and tend to occur either as fan service gestures or as strategic commercial events. The most notable precedent within HYBE itself is the unit tracks produced across BTS sub-labels — and before that, the SM Entertainment practice of producing annual SM Station collaborative singles and the YG Entertainment tradition of pairing label acts for special releases. “ICONIC BY MISTAKE” combines one of the fourth generation’s most commercially dominant groups in LE SSERAFIM, one of its most critically debated new acts in ILLIT, and KATSEYE, the only Western-rooted girl group in the lineup, operating under a joint HYBE x Geffen infrastructure that spans Korea and the United States. The three groups collectively represent HYBE’s strategy for the fourth generation of K-pop across its domestic Korean labels and its global joint venture.
“ICONIC BY MISTAKE” by KATSEYE, ILLIT and LE SSERAFIM drops June 12 at 1pm KST. The music video pre-releases June 11 at midnight KST. The groups perform live on M Countdown June 11.
