Katy Perry Returns to the Albums Chart’s Top 10

The Ones That Got the Plays rises from No. 13 to No. 9 on this week’s edition of the Official Albums chart. The tally lists the most-consumed albums and EPs in the U.K. via both sales and streaming activity.

No. 9 marks a new high point for the compilation, though this is not the project’s first appearance inside the top 10. The Ones That Got the Plays spent two weeks at No. 10 earlier in July after finally climbing into the region.

When it broke into the loftiest space on the roster, The Ones That Got the Plays gave Perry her sixth top 10 on the Official Albums chart. Only one of the seven projects she has sent to the ranking failed to reach the highest tier. One of the Boys, the album that turned Perry into a global hitmaker, peaked at No. 11 nearly two decades ago.

Katy Perry Needed Nearly Two Months to Reach the Top 10

At first, The Ones That Got the Plays appeared like it was destined to miss the top 10 on the Official Albums chart entirely. The compilation debuted at No. 13 in the middle of May and then climbed to a new peak of No. 12, a position where it stalled multiple times.

The project did not enter the most competitive space until its eighth week on the tally. The Ones That Got the Plays then spent two frames at No. 10 before slipping backward.

Katy Perry Slips Slightly on the Streaming Chart

The Ones That Got the Plays moves in the opposite direction on the Official Albums Streaming chart, the only other roster where it currently appears. Last week, the collection returned to its all-time high of No. 6. This frame, it slips one space to No. 7. The compilation originally reached No. 6 earlier in July before falling, only to gain a small bit of ground a little bit later.

Katy Perry Charts Two Albums in the U.K.

Teenage Dream appears on the same two rankings as The Ones That Got the Plays, though it does not place as high as the compilation on either tally. The blockbuster returns to the top 40 on the Official Albums chart, where it rises from No. 42 to No. 40. On the Official Albums Streaming ranking, Teenage Dream holds steady at No. 30.

Katy Perry’s Two Albums Have Enjoyed Very Different Cart Runs

The two projects have very different histories on the charts. The Ones That Got the Plays has spent 11 weeks on each ranking, while Teenage Dream recently passed 500 frames on the streaming roster and is nearing 450 on the main albums tally. The pop blockbuster once ruled the most closely-watched albums chart, but so far, has yet to even approach the streaming rundown’s top 10.

Katy Perry Climbs With “The One That Got Away”

“The One That Got Away,” the song that inspired the title of Perry’s compilation, can currently be found on two U.K. rankings this week, and it climbs on both of them. The single manages its largest bump on the Official Streaming chart, where it advances from No. 71 to No. 57. Streaming activity has always played a major role in the track’s resurgence, as it reaches younger listeners more than a decade after its original release.

“The One That Got Away” also surges on the Official Singles chart. The hit jumps from No. 37 to No. 25, returning to the top 30 and moving closer to its No. 18 peak.
