For decades, Madonna was known as one of the most reliable hitmakers in the music industry. Beginning in the mid-1980s, every album produced several smashes, and for a while, she claimed one of the most impressive sums of No. 1s in the history of the Billboard Hot 100.

These days, decades into her career, Madonna does not rack up radio smashes like she used to, though that doesn’t mean her fan base has waned. Tastes have changed – and ageism is certainly playing a role in dictating where she exists in the current pantheon of pop musicians – but make no mistake, Madonna remains the Queen of Pop and one of the bigger acts working today.

Madonna returns to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, scoring her tenth leader as Confessions II launches across a variety of tallies, including on the most important albums list in the United States. At the same time, the set’s latest single becomes a global hit, and as it arrives, it even manages to outpace one of her signature cuts.

“Danceteria” Debuts on Both of Billboard’s Global Charts

Days after delivering Confessions II, Madonna chose “Danceteria” as the project’s latest single. That track debuts on a trio of charts published by Billboard, including a pair that looks at the most popular tunes all around the world.

“Danceteria” opens at No. 104 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. and No. 126 on the Billboard Global 200. The first tally looks at what people in every nation except for the U.S. are listening to, and sales and streams dictate where each title lands on the 200-space rundown. The Billboard Global 200 only differs in that American consumption is also included.

Madonna Earns Her Fourth Worldwide Win

On both rosters, “Danceteria” becomes Madonna’s fourth career win. The Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. were introduced back in 2020, long after many of her most famous singles enjoyed their time on the charts. All of the icon’s tracks that have appeared on the rosters have debuted within the past three years or so.

“Danceteria” Outpaces “Like a Prayer”

“Danceteria” immediately becomes Madonna’s third-highest-ranking win on both charts. Only “Like a Prayer,” one of the most famous songs she ever released, has stalled in a lower position. That cut enjoyed a viral boost after it was featured in the movie Deadpool & Wolverine, and it launched on the global tallies in the summer of 2024. “Like a Prayer” peaked at No. 131 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. and seven spaces lower on the Billboard Global 200.

“Danceteria” Doubles Madonna’s Top 10 Wins on One Tally

“Danceteria” only hits one additional ranking, and it’s a U.S.-based tally. The Confessions II single doubles Madonna’s top 10s on the Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart, one of Billboard‘s most recent additions to its lineup. This time around, “Danceteria” begins its run at No. 10.

All three of her hits come from Confessions II, and Madonna appeared on the rundown for the first time in early May. On her inaugural trip to the genre-specific chart, Madonna missed the top 10 by just two spaces, as “I Feel So Free” opened at No. 12, peaking in that spot. Later that month, “Bring Your Love” with Carpenter earned the superstar her first top 10 when it surged all the way to No. 7.
