Insidious: Out of the Further, the sixth film in James Wan and Jason Blum’s hit horror movie franchise, pivots to digital streaming this week after a strong performance at the domestic and worldwide box office.
Written and directed by Jacob Chase, Insidious: Out of the Further opened in theaters on Aug. 19. The horror film franchise kicked off in 2011 with Insidious, which earned $54 million in North American ticket sales and $99.8 million worldwide against a $1.5 million production budget before prints and advertising costs.
Since then, the modestly budgeted Insidious franchise has consistently delivered big returns. Insidious Chapter 2 (2013) earned $161.9 million in global ticket sales, followed by Insidious Chapter 3 (2015), which earned a franchise-low $120.4 million worldwide.
The franchise rebounded in 2018 with Insidious: The Last Key— which earned $172.8 million worldwide— followed by 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door, which had a global box office tally of $189 million.
Rated PG-13, Insidious: Out of the Further through Sunday has earned $65.7 million domestically and $102.5 million internationally for a running worldwide box office tally of $168.3 million. Insidious: Out of the Further had a production budget of $18 million before P&A, according to Variety.
Insidious: Out of the Further, which opened in 3,303 North American theaters, is close to wrapping up its domestic box office run. As of Sunday, Insidious: Out of the Further is only playing in 289 theaters nationwide as it prepares to open up a new revenue stream on digital streaming via premium video on demand.
‘Insidious: Out Of The Further’ Arrives On PVOD On Tuesday
Insidious: Out of the Further will make its home entertainment debut on Tuesday, Oct. 6, a new listing on Prime Video confirms.
In addition to Prime Video, Insidious: Out of the Further will be available to purchase for $24.99 on such digital platforms as Apple TV, Fandango at Home and YouTube Movies & TV. Since digital rental prices are typically $5 less than purchase prices, viewers should be able to rent Insidious: Out of the Further for $19.99 for a 48-hour period.
Insidious: Out of the Further stars Amelia Eve Gemma, a young mother who returns to her childhood home to raise her daughter. Before too long, Gemma realizes she has the power to travel into the purgatory realm that is dubbed “The Further” and bring lives back from a dimension that separates heaven, earth and hell.
Gemma’s special abilities also put her in peril, however, since they catch the attention of the sinister demons who live within The Further.
Insidious: Out of the Further also stars Brandon Perea, Sam Spruell, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Island Austin and longtime franchise star Lin Shaye.
