Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Lynn Dickey trashed coach Matt LaFleur Wednesday for the Packers’ lack of discipline.

Quarterback Lynn Dickey is a Green Bay Packers legend.
And Wednesday Dickey went on a legendary rant, calling out Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur.
Appearing on The Bill Michaels Show, Dickey lambasted LaFleur and the Packers for their ridiculous 26 penalties through two games. Not only does Green Bay lead the league in penalties and penalty yards (231), the Packers are on pace to set NFL records in both of those categories.
Green Bay is 1-1 heading into its game with Atlanta Thursday night, and LaFleur has become the frontrunner to be the first coach fired this season.
“I don’t know the personality of Matt LaFleur, but it sure appears to be very passive, and like, ‘I don’t want to get down guys’ throats.’ But sometimes that’s what you’ve got to do,” Dickey said of the Packers’ penalty issues. “They make a lot of money. We all know that. But you’ve got to want to be disciplined and controlled and the way this thing is going right now, boy does it stink. I’d like to say something different about it, but that’s what I see.”
Dickey, who quarterbacked the Packers from 1976-85, threw for 21,369 yards and 133 touchdowns in that time. In 1983, Dickey powered the Packers to a then-team record 429 points and threw a league-high 32 touchdown passes.
Dickey still ranks second in team history for most passing yards in a season (4,458 in 1983). He also holds the Green Bay record for highest completion percentage in a game with a minimum of 20 attempts (19–21, 90.48%) against New Orleans in 1981.
Dickey played for Bart Starr from 1976-1983, then under Forrest Gregg his final two seasons in Green Bay. While the Packers lacked discipline under Gregg, they were consistently among the NFL’s least penalized teams with Starr in charge.
“We didn’t have the greatest talent when I played, but almost every year we were in the top-three of fewest penalties,” said Dickey, who’s a member of the Packers’ Hall of Fame. “And why?
“Bart Starr went over and over and over and demanded that all the time. And I see the stupid penalties post-play, unsportsmanlike stuff. You know, that’s all coaching. And just right now man, it is a bomb. And something better change.”
At this point, Dickey certainly isn’t optimistic that will happen.
“(They’re) the most undisciplined team,” Dickey said during the radio show. “Penalties are coaching and if you don’t get after people and demand that they do the correct things, that’s coaching.”
