Pink Floyd’s catalog is one of the most lucrative in the music business, as nearly everything the English rock band released became commercially successful either during its initial promotional period or in the years since Pink Floyd emerged as one of the most important rock groups of all time. There are a handful of albums that stand out as the biggest and best from the troupe, with Wish You Were Here counted among the bestselling rock full-lengths of all time.
The project, which recently turned 50, becomes a bestseller again in the band’s home country on multiple tallies this week.
Pink Floyd’s Blockbuster Returns to Three Charts
Wish You Were Here returns to the Official Albums Sales, Official Physical Albums and Official Album Downloads charts at Nos. 89, 90 and 99, respectively. The classic barely makes it back onto the downloads ranking, where it comes in second-to-last on the 100-space roster.
Wish You Were Here Approaches Three Years as a Bestseller
Wish You Were Here will celebrate three full years as a bestseller on the Official Physical Albums chart if it can hang on for one more frame. The album has now accumulated 155 weeks on that tally, while its runs on the Official Albums Sales and Official Album Downloads rankings stand at 134 and 71 turns, respectively.
Pink Floyd’s Classic Wasn’t Gone for Long
Wish You Were Here has not been absent from any of the three charts where it returns for very long. Its lengthiest disappearance came on the Official Physical Albums tally, where it was last seen in mid-July. The collection appeared more recently on both the Official Albums Sales and Official Album Downloads rankings, spending only a few weeks away from each.
When a years-old project bounds back onto various sales lists at a new peak—or anywhere in the upper half—that can often be connected to a vinyl reissue, anniversary edition or some other sales promotion. There are also any number of classics that fall away from purchase-focused charts and then return in lower positions simply because a quieter frame brings less competition. That is likely the case with Wish You Were Here, which disappears from these tallies with some regularity but never seems to stay away for very long.
Wish You Were Here Returns to the Top 10
Wish You Were Here can be found on four U.K. rankings this week as the masterpiece returns to a trio of sales-focused charts and surges on another list. The project bolts from No. 18 to No. 10 on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart, breaking back into the highest tier shortly after celebrating 600 weeks as one of the most-consumed rock and/or metal collections in the country.
Pink Floyd Claims Two Top 10 Rock Albums
Pink Floyd actually has two albums present on the charts in the U.K. this week, and both of them appear on the same four tallies. The Dark Side of the Moon declines on all three sales-focused rosters, slipping to Nos. 66, 69 and 70 on the Official Albums Sales, Official Physical Albums and Official Album Downloads charts, respectively.
The legendary project moves in the opposite direction on the Official Rock & Metal Albums ranking, as it climbs two spaces to No. 5. As Wish You Were Here returns to No. 10 at the same time, Pink Floyd claims two of the 10 top-performing rock and metal albums in the U.K. at the moment, more than a decade after the band’s final album was released.
