Music icon Prince is the subject of a Little Golden Book that was released a few months ahead of the 10th anniversary of the death of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame musician.
Prince — who was born Prince Rogers Nelson on June 7, 1958, in Minneapolis — died 10 years ago, on April 21, 2016, at age 57. Prince, of course, was the musician, singer and songwriter behind such legendary songs as “1999,” “Little Red Corvette,” “Purple Rain,” “When Doves Cry,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Raspberry Beret” and “Kiss.”
“Purple Rain” was also the title track of his 1984 musical drama in which he starred as “The Kid.” In addition to the film becoming a box office hit and its soundtrack becoming a multi-platinum best-selling album, Prince won an Oscar for Best Music, Original Song Score at the 1985 Academy Awards.
Prince’s film career also included a collaboration with Tim Burton for songs in the director’s 1989 superhero movie classic Batman, starring Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson.

Penguin Random House/Golden Books
While Prince’s legacy is being honored on Tuesday with recollections of his music, videos and overall cultural impact — including a memorable performance at the Super Bowl XLI Halftime Show at Dolphin Stadium in Miami in 2007 — young readers also have the opportunity to learn about the music icon.
In January, Penguin Random House released Prince: A Little Golden Book Biography, which takes a look at the life and career of the music legend, who is often referred to as “The Purple One.” Intended for readers ages 4 to 8, Prince: A Little Golden Book Biography was written by Nikki Shannon Smith and illustrated by Don Tate.
According to Prince: A Little Golden Book Biography’s official summary, the book tracks the musician’s childhood in Minneapolis to the creation of his timeless hits and “celebrates Prince’s boundary-breaking artistry, his fearless self-expression, and his enduring influence on music, fashion, and culture.”
