Topline

The second episode of the latest season of “South Park”—which has renamed itself “South America” in a dig at President Donald Trump—aired on Wednesday and mocked “AI-loving” billionaires who are obsessed with appearing on podcasts like Joe Rogan’s and depicted them as fast-spreading pests in the fictional town.

Key Facts

The episode “Billionaire Weenietown” focuses on the side character Butters, who rages in school about the town’s “billionaire problem” and blames their data centers for power cuts at his home.

Instead of making them appear like the rest of the show’s characters, “South Park” depicts billionaires as small, rodent-sized, anthropomorphic male genitals and doesn’t identify any of them by name.

“Billionaire Weenietown” is depicted as a small, gilded mound in Butters’ backyard with data centers, banks, and palatial buildings, prompting the South Park character to call in pest control.

The billionaire town’s mayor then warns its residents that they may be starting to annoy people and demands that they stop drawing attention to themselves by going on the Joe Rogan podcast and boosting their social media following with their takes on issues.

The mayor later does a presentation on “proper billionaire etiquette” and demands that billionaires shouldn’t go on podcasts to “talk about peptides” or go on social media to “feed COVID conspiracies by discussing their wife’s six miscarriages.”

Later in the show, a news segment labels the billionaires a “highly invasive species threatening its ecosystem” and says the town is “infested” with private jets.

Tangent

The B-plot of the show revolves around Butters’ parents lamenting about his anger against billionaires and AI data centers. The plot takes a jab at anti-vaxxers as Butters’ father Stephen wonders if his liberal-leaning stance on this issue is the result of him being vaccinated as a child against measles. Stephen blames his wife Linda for letting Butters get the vaccine and loudly declares: “I knew what that vaccination would do to him, because I listen to podcasts.”
