‘The Pitt’s’ Noah Wyle Wins Lead Actor In A Drama Series

It looks like Noah Wyle’s first Emmy Award last year for HBO Max’s The Pitt will have a buddy next to it as he takes home his second award in the same category: Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series. (He also took home a trophy as executive producer for last year’s Outstanding Drama Series win.)

Wyle won the award at tonight’s ceremony, held at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, for his portrayal of the burnt-out ER doctor, Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, on the critically acclaimed medical drama, The Pitt.

Also nominated in the category were Sterling K. Brown (Hulu’s Paradise), Gary Oldman (AppleTV’s Slow Horses), Mark Ruffalo (HBO Max’s Task), and Rufus Sewell (Netflix’s The Diplomat).

Wyle, who also serves as executive producer and director for the series, was on hand to receive the award, thanking fellow nominees, especially Oldman. He addressed Oldman, “I have to tell you, I don’t know an actor my age that didn’t look at Sid and Nancy and think, ‘That’s the benchmark that I want to hit one day in my career.”

He thanked the cast, creatives, and crew of the series, “To all the men and women who work so hard on Stage 22 every day, we’re going to be back there in it hard tomorrow morning – really early.”

Wyle, who grew up in Los Angeles, told the crowd, “I’m a Hollywood kid. I was raised [with a] television, and movie theaters were my place of worship. This is all I’ve ever wanted to do, and this is the only club I’ve ever wanted.

Wyle has been nominated for an Emmy Award none times in his career, winning his first last year for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for The Pitt. In addition to this year’s Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series win, he’s been nominated for Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series for The Pitt’s Episode 6, titled “12:00 P.M.” He previously was nominated five times for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role on E.R.

With this win, he becomes the fifth actor to win for the first two seasons of a drama series, joining Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Daniel J. Travanti (Hill Street Blues), Bill Cosby (I Spy) and E.G. Marshall (The Defenders).

Beyond his role in The Pitt, Wyle has been advocating for health care workers – pushing for funding and expanding mental health resources, fair pay, tax credits, better protection, and more legislation.

Created by writer-producer R. Scott Gemmill and executive produced by John Wells and Wyle, The Pitt is a love letter to frontline and healthcare workers and the realities they face, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. Gemmill, Wells, and Wyle had previously worked together on the 1994 Emmy Award-winning series, E.R. The Pitt won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series last year and is up for the same category again. The series also took home four Creative Emmy Awards last weekend, including Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup, Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for Ernest Harden Jr., Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics, and Outstanding Casting For A Drama Series.

The Pitt’s third season is currently in production, set to release in January 2027 on HBO Max.
