Planning where to eat while you’re traveling can take almost as much research as deciding where to stay or what to see. Tripadvisor’s annual Best of the Best restaurant rankings offer a broad snapshot of the places diners and travelers rate highest based on firsthand experiences.

If the city of Buenos Aires is on your travel list, this year’s fine dining winner is one worth bookmarking. Fogón Asado, an Argentine steakhouse in the city, was named the world’s best fine dining restaurant for 2026.

How Tripadvisor determines its Best of the Best rankings

The rankings are based on the quality and quantity of Tripadvisor reviews and ratings collected between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026, along with an editorial review process. Tripadvisor says Best of the Best winners rank among the top 1% of listings on its platform.

Fogón Asado is the world’s 1 fine dining restaurant for the second year in a row

Fogón Asado centers the Argentine tradition of asado, serving a multi-course tasting menu built around meats cooked over an open fire. The experience brings guests close to the grill and the cooking process rather than separating the dining room from what is happening over the fire.

The Buenos Aires restaurant also held the top position in the travel review platform’s fine dining rankings last year, making this its second consecutive year at number one.

Fogón Asado has also been selected for inclusion in the Michelin Guide’s Buenos Aires edition for the past three years. The regional guide describes the experience as a “splendid and fun gastronomic journey lasting over two hours across Argentina’s most popular culinary art form.”

At the center of that experience are two tasting menus: a nine-course option and a 14-course Chef’s Counter for 10 guests, with grill chefs explaining the ingredients, firewood, techniques and traditions behind the meal as they cook.

Why asado matters in Argentina

The South American country is known for its meat, both as a major meat producer and for beef as a central component of Argentine cuisine. The country’s geography helped shape that relationship. The fertile grasslands of the Pampas in central Argentina became closely associated with cattle raising. The cooking technique asado has become much more than a way of cooking meat.

Rooted in cooking cuts of meat slowly over fire, often on a parrilla (a charcoal-fired grill), asado is also a social event tied to gathering, family and time spent around the grill.

Argentina’s tourism authority describes it as a national symbol and ritual, which helps put Fogón Asado’s top ranking into context: the restaurant is taking one of the country’s most recognizable food traditions and translating it into a fine-dining tasting-menu format.

Argentina has three restaurants in the world’s top 10

Fogón Asado is one of three Argentine restaurants in Tripadvisor’s global top ten, joined by Abrasado in Guaymallen, and El Mercado, also in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Argentina has more restaurants in the top 10 than any other country on the 2026 list.

Mexico is the only other country with more than one entry, with Careyes in Cancun and Acre in San Jose del Cabo. The rest of the list stretches across Asia, Europe and South America, with KOMA Singapore in second place, The Rhythms Restaurant in Hanoi, Vietnam, in third and The Witchery Restaurant in Edinburgh, Scotland, in fourth.
