Key Facts
The policy change will prevent Microsoft from sponsoring workers who come to the United States to work on an H-1B visa for a green card, or permanent residency, Vance said at a Thursday morning White House news conference.
Vance said Microsoft workers will “no longer be able to take those H-1Bs and apply for permanent resident status within the United States of America,” alleging Microsoft has laid off thousands of American workers while hiring foreign-born employees on H-1Bs.
“If you do the math, for every worker that Microsoft laid off, they replaced that worker with one and a half foreign indentured servants,” Vance said, adding he wants Microsoft and other companies to “thrive” in America, but “we want you to employ American workers.”
