At some point later this year, U2 will release a new album, although exactly when is not clear. The Irish rockers doled out two EPs earlier in 2026, leading with Days of Ash in mid-February and then Easter Lily in early April. Both of those projects appear to be standalone studio efforts, not attached to the Grammy-winning outfit’s forthcoming full-length.
U2 recently shared “Street of Dreams” and “Fireflies,” a team-up with Martin Garrix, with at least the first set to be featured on the group’s soon-to-be-released album. The act also recorded a cover of a classic from the band The Pogues titled “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah,” and that tune becomes a hit on multiple rankings in the United Kingdom this frame.
U2’s New Cover Debuts on Two U.K. Charts
“Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah” debuts on both the Official Singles Downloads and Official Singles Sales charts this week in the U.K., opening on those lists at Nos. 68 and 79, respectively. The first ranking focuses specifically on digital purchases, while the latter sales tally incorporates all eligible purchases across a variety of formats.
U2 Scores a Milestone Twentieth Sales Hit
“Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah” brings U2 to a milestone 20 career appearances on the Official Singles Sales chart as it debuts. The group first reached the tally less than a decade ago, when “With or Without You” launched in March 2017. Before that year was over, U2 had already racked up five total wins.
The MacGowan cover becomes U2’s third new bestseller on the ranking in 2026. “Song of the Future” debuted at No. 98 in March and then disappeared. “Street of Dreams” climbed much higher, peaking at No. 17 earlier this summer.
U2 Has Scored 24 Download Chart Smashes
U2 is now up to 24 appearances on the Official Singles Downloads chart, only a handful more than on the more competitive sales ranking. The rockers hit it big with their very first win on the downloads tally, “Vertigo,” which arrived in October 2004. That cut would go on to spend nine weeks at No. 1.
The same two recent tracks that became sales hits this year have also reached the downloads list. “Song of the Future” and “Street of Dreams” both added to U2’s career total.
Shane MacGowan Scores Another Posthumous Hit
MacGowan scores his second career placement on the Official Singles Sales chart under his own name with “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.” He first made it to the tally last April alongside Sinéad O’Connor, when “Haunted” debuted and peaked at No. 39. “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah” earns MacGowan his first hit on the Official Singles Downloads roster.
U2 Covers a Pogues Classic
“Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah” was originally released by The Pogues in 1988 and written by MacGowan. U2 recorded its new version not for the band’s own forthcoming studio album, but for 20th Century Paddy – The Songs of Shane MacGowan, a tribute collection honoring the late Irish songwriter that’s expected on November 13.
The project was assembled in close partnership with MacGowan’s family and includes contributions from names such as Bruce Springsteen, Hozier, Tom Waits, The Libertines and Glen Hansard, among others. Proceeds are set to support the Dublin Simon Community in MacGowan’s memory.
