Euphoria has always thrived in chaos, and Sam Levinson has decided to save its most ruthless season for last. The Emmy-winning HBO drama is airing its Season 3 finale on Sunday, May 21, and if the show intends to go out the way it came in, expect a big bang (and more character deaths).
There are a few hints that tonight’s episode could serve as the series finale. In April, Zendaya said on The Drew Barrymore Show that she believes “closure” is coming and that the series is ending with Season 3. Levinson told Variety in April that he writes “every season like it’s the last season” and has “no plans” for a Season 4.
Spoilers: Tonight’s reportedly supersized finale, titled “In God We Trust,” has plenty of threads left to resolve. Rue (Zendaya) is in grave danger after breaking into drug dealer Laurie’s (Martha Kelly) safe. With Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) dead, Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) unraveling and Fern (Chloe Cherry) having just tipped off her Nazi boyfriend Wayne (Toby Wallace) about Rue’s whereabouts. “If there’s a beginning, there must be an end,” Rue says in a cryptic voiceover in Episode 7.
Season 3 is set five years after the Season 2 finale, with Cassie and Nate married and living in the suburbs, Rue working off her debt to Laurie, Jules (Hunter Schafer) in art school and Maddy (Alexa Demie) climbing the ranks at a Hollywood talent agency. The season’s synopsis teased that the childhood friends would wrestle “with the virtue of faith, the possibility of redemption, and the problem of evil.” These themes still feel incredibly relevant heading into a thrilling finale that may double as a series goodbye.
Despite the lengthy four-year wait, Season 3 doesn’t have any extra episodes, just eight, the same as each of the first two seasons. However, HBO Max may be making up for it with the finale’s runtime. Keep reading to find out more details about the finale.

Multiple sites are reporting that Episode 8 will be 93 minutes long, but HBO has yet to confirm the runtime. However, if the finale is an hour and a half, it would be one of the longest episodes to date for an HBO Max series. This is similar to the 93-minute finale of The Wire, the 90-minute finale of The White Lotus Season 3, and the 82-minute third episode of Game of Thrones Season 8, according to Elle.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Euphoria Season 3, Episode 7.
In the penultimate episode of Euphoria Season 3, Levinson killed off Nate Jacobs. He was buried alive on a construction site and then poisoned by a venomous rattlesnake that crawled into his coffin and attacked him. Nate was being held hostage by loan sharks, who gave Cassie three days to come up with the money to save him.
Cassie asked Maddy for help, who in turn asked Alamo, and despite confronting Naz with a fake money bag and shooting him, it was all for nothing. When the coffin was finally uncovered, the two women found Nate’s corpse.
The episode ended with Fern yelling to her Nazi boyfriend Wayne that Rue had broken into the safe in Laurie’s basement. When Rue opened it, she realized there was no money, only photos and IDs. She’s in grave danger yet again after facing numerous run-ins with death, including being almost killed by Alamo and Bishop and getting her head chopped off with a polo mallet.
