Van Halen rocked together as a band for nearly two decades until just before the new millennium, when the musicians went on a hiatus of several years. The rock group reformed in the early aughts and continued until 2020, when Eddie Van Halen passed away from cancer. Since then, fans have had to focus their listening on older collections, re-releases, and the like, and it looked for a while like Van Halen may never score another win on the charts again in the United Kingdom. That changes this week, as the outfit returns to one tally, scoring its first new placement in more than half a decade.

Van Halen’s Live in New Haven CT 1986 Debuts

Van Halen’s Live in New Haven CT 1986 debuts on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. This frame, the live recording opens at No. 25 on the list of the top-selling full-lengths and EPs in the U.K. that can be described as rock, hard rock, metal, or other closely related subgenres.

The Very Best Of Marked Van Halen’s Latest Chart Entries

Van Halen scores a new win on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart for the first time in more than five years. In October 2020, the band collected not one, but two launches, and they arrived one right after another.

On the chart week dated October 15, The Very Best Of debuted, and it would spend just two frames somewhere on the roster, peaking at No. 13. A few days days later, another compilation, The Best of Both Worlds – The Very Best, opened at No. 30, but it only held on for one period.

Both of those compilations became bestsellers and appeared on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart following Eddie Van Halen’s passing. It’s not uncommon for fans to mourn the loss of a beloved musician by heading to digital download stores like iTunes and Amazon to purchase albums and songs, and the focus for many legacy acts is typically on greatest hits sets.

Van Halen’s Balance Nearly Soared to No. 1

Van Halen first appeared on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart more than 30 years ago. Balance brought the group to the tally in February 1995, and that project only missed out on ruling by one space. The band’s next three titles that made their way to the genre-focused ranking – Best Of – Volume 1, The Best of Both Worlds, and A Different Kind of Truth – which launched in 1996, 2004, and 2012, respectively, all hit No. 1.

Van Halen’s Live in New Haven CT 1986 Arrives on Vinyl

Live in New Haven CT 1986 was released for the first time ever on vinyl as part of Record Store Day 2026. The semi-annual event sees dozens of musical acts drop new products for fans to purchase, but they will have to head to record stores to buy them. The program is meant to aid that sector of the business, which has been faltering for many years.

Diehard Van Halen fans know that the show represented on the double LP includes the then-new lineup of Sammy Hagar, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, and Michael Anthony, according to the title’s Record Store Day web page.

Van Halen Enters During a Very Busy Chart Week

It’s an extremely busy week on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. 20 releases – almost all connected to Record Store Day – debut on the 40-space ranking, meaning that the music industry event is responsible for essentially half of all of the top-selling rock projects in the U.K. at the moment. Starting ahead of Van Halen are fan favorites from Thin Lizzy, Pink Floyd, Megadeth, and three new efforts by Motörhead.
