FC Barcelona have agreed personal terms with Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon according to MARCA, citing anonymous sources.

Also citing anonymous sources, The Athletic has reported that Barca have made an €80 million ($93 million) bid for the English international with add-ons.

Gordon played against the Blaugrana on three occasions in 2025/2026, meaning Hansi Flick, his staff, and Sporting Director Deco have had a good look at the 25-year-old raised in Liverpool and Everton’s academies.

He scored in the 89th minute of a 2-1 league phase loss to the Catalans in mid-September, when Marcus Rashford netted a double.

In the last 16, Newcastle held Barca to a 1-1 draw in the first leg before losing the return fixture at the Spotify Camp Nou 7-2.

Gordon has been linked to Barca in previous weeks, but it is only now, with the La Liga season wrapped up, that the Spanish champions have made a concrete advance.

The Athletic explains that talks between the two clubs in question continue, yet Bayern Munich is also interested in possibly acquiring Gordon.

MARCA writes of how President Joan Laporta, Deco and Flick “are convinced that the Englishman can be a signing with great potential for the club”, yet it will be interesting to see how they raise the funds at a time when Barca are attempting to return to the 1:1 rule.

If this deal comes off, there’ll be further uncertainty surrounding Marcus Rashford amid the Mancunian’s loan deal finishing on June 30.

Barca have an option to buy the Manchester United-owned forward for €30 million, and his return of 14 goals and 14 assists in a La Liga-winning season warrants making his stay permanent.

With both Rashford and Gordon sharing the left wing often permanently occupied by Raphinha, however, maybe there’s no need for two Three Lions stars.

Simultaneously, though, Rashford has shown he can fill in on the right wing and provided an important assist there for the soon-departing Robert Lewandowski in a recent 2-1 win over Osasuna.

Rashford can operate as a number 9 too, and signing him can also provide options up front amid an expense pursuit of Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez.
