‘GIRLS PLANET 2027’ Expands To More Cities For Global Group Search

CJ ENM’s Mnet has expanded its global search for the next girl group debut project, GIRLS PLANET 2027, adding Mexico City, Austin, and Atlanta to its lineup of on-site auditions this November.

The South Korean entertainment company partnered with Universal Music Group’s REPUBLIC to bring this all together. The Mnet series GIRLS PLANET 2027 is set to premiere next year, bringing together Mnet’s audition format and REPUBLIC’s global music expertise to discover, develop, and debut the next generation of global artists focused on the U.S. market.

CJ ENM and Mnet have been in the music competition space for the past 20 years, developing K-pop’s biggest stars. They have continuously evolved the audition format into a global artist platform that fits today’s music, content, and fandom. Their K-pop development models have created enduring content IP and global artist IP, including artists like Wanna One, I.O.I., IZ*ONE, ENHYPEN, Kep1er, ZEROBASEONE, izna, and ALPHA DRIVE ONE. Their format has gone beyond Korea, extending into Japan through LAPONE Entertainment to create and develop acts like JO1, INI, and ME:1. Now, they’re taking on the global stage.

Building on the previously announced stops in Los Angeles, New York, and London, the auditions will take place in six locations. The company previously held two-day on-site auditions during this year’s KCON LA in downtown Los Angeles. Now, the new on-site auditions will take place throughout November, beginning in New York and London on November 7, continuing in Los Angeles and Austin on November 14, and concluding in Mexico City and Atlanta on November 21.

The New York auditions will be taking place at UMG’s Chelsea Studios NYC (220 W 18th St, New York, NY 10011). The Los Angeles auditions will take place at the CJ ENM America building (300 S. Grand Ave., Suite 1100, Los Angeles, CA 90071). The other locations will be announced soon.

Online applications opened on May 1 and have already surpassed 55,000 – a record high for the company. A third of the applicants are based in the U.S., with the rest spanning Asia and Europe. Potential applicants can apply through Mnet Plus, CJ ENM’s global K-pop content platform until December 14 (7:59 am PST / 10:59 am EST / 11:59 pm KST).
