A ‘MobLand’ Season 3 Tom Hardy Update Ahead Of Season 2’s Release Date

One of Paramount+’s most popular series has is MobLand, the crime thriller starring Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren. Hardy plays a fixer for the Harrigan crime family, led by Brosnan’s Conrad and Mirren’s Maeve. MobLand season 2’s release date is September 18, but we have new, official information about season 3 already.

Season 3 of MobLand has been the subject of back-and-forth reports about “tensions” behind the scenes with star Tom Hardy, at one point leading to a false claim that Hardy had been fired. Now, Paramount has officially confirmed that MobLand has been renewed for season 3 and Tom Hardy is returning, corroborating a Variety report from June. This is all in the wake of Hardy already starring in the upcoming season 2, out in two weeks.

Dealing with a potential Hardy departure would have been exceptionally difficult, as the lead character would have to be written out of the show or recast, neither of which is a good option. Obviously, it is great that this all came together in the end, and it’s certainly possible the series could continue past season 3 if it keeps putting up big numbers. Its premiere day reached 2.2 million global viewers, a record for any series premiere in the history of Paramount+. After a week, viewership increased by 298%, and by the end of the season, it was the second most-watched Paramount+ series besides 1923.

MobLand arrived with decent-to-solid reviews for its first season. It has a 77% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and a 67% from fans. Hardy’s performance has been praised, but it’s a wild, out-of-bounds show for both Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren, who have never played parts quite like this as an unhinged couple running a fracturing crime family. It’s certainly far from the best mob show ever made; I’m not even sure it’s top 10, but it’s a fun, pulpy watch, as are many of the series on Paramount+, namely Taylor Sheridan’s collection. You may be surprised to learn that Sheridan had no hand in this series, as he is normally behind almost every popular show on Paramount+, from Landman to 1923 to Lioness. And about 4-5 more past that.

We will see how MobLand season 2 goes in a couple weeks here, and obviously we should not expect any sort of conclusive ending, given that we know another season is coming. Nor should we expect the death of Hardy’s Harry Da Souza, given all the fuss about him returning to the series.
