J. Cole was immediately successful when it came to his music career – at least as far as the general public is concerned. The rapper reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with his debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, although the hip-hop superstar would later state that the project was not wholly reflective of who he is as an artist.
Things began to change with Cole’s sophomore major-label release, Born Sinner. The first single from that set, a tune titled “Power Trip,” is suddenly a hit in America again, well over a decade after it first helped reintroduce Cole to the American public.
J. Cole’s “Power Trip” Debuts on a Billboard Chart
“Power Trip,” Cole’s collaboration with Miguel, debuts at No. 21 on this week’s R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart. The tally tracks the most-streamed R&B and hip-hop tunes in the United States on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music and others.
“Power Trip” becomes one of only two tracks by Cole to peak at exactly No. 21 on the list. It joins “Old Dog,” his collaboration with Petey Pablo, which spent one frame in that position earlier this year.
J. Cole Has Charted Dozens of Streaming Hits
“Power Trip” becomes Cole’s eighty-first smash on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart. Miguel has nabbed only five wins on the tally, and the collaboration marks his first new arrival since “Sure Thing” reached the roster in January 2023. Interestingly, “Power Trip” ties another Miguel favorite on the chart. “Adorn” similarly peaked at No. 21, where it debuted back in May 2013.
Two J. Cole Classics Return Together
“Power Trip” is also one of two Cole tracks that return to the Rap Streaming Songs chart this week. The Born Sinner single reenters at No. 12, one space above “No Role Modelz,” which is back at No. 13.
Both tunes have performed even better on the ranking in the past and even reached the top 10. “Power Trip” has climbed as high as No. 5, while “No Role Modelz” previously topped out at No. 8.
J. Cole’s “Legacy” Rises to New Chart Peaks
As two older Cole favorites become streaming hits again, the rapper’s much newer “Legacy,” which also credits an artist named PJ, rises to new peaks on three radio rankings in America. The collaboration advances to Nos. 6, 12 and 19 on the Rhythmic Airplay, Rap Airplay and R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay charts, respectively.
“Legacy” simultaneously returns to the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs tally at No. 47. The track declines on only one of the five Billboard rankings where it appears at the moment as it slips one space from its No. 16 peak on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.
