Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Sony
In roughly the 86th incident of this happening across countless movies, the leak of a toy has spoiled a major plot point/character look in a movie. This time, it’s a Hasbro action figure sabotaging Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Spoilers follow.
The incident in question is the reveal of a new Hulk figurine. While we knew that Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner was back, it was not confirmed whether that would be a cameo or if he would actually be transforming into the Hulk. Now we know.
But past that, the most important reveal here is that we are now returning to Savage Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the more controllable, very angry version of Hulk, where Banner has been in “Smart Hulk” mode for multiple projects now, last seen in She-Hulk, where it was revealed he had a son that I think the MCU is probably never going to talk about again. Smart Hulk was strong and also retained Banner’s personality, but Savage Hulk? You don’t want to mess with Savage Hulk.
Then there’s a third spoiler here in that this Hulk is so Savage that he’s back to attacking friend and foe alike, now totally out of control. The toy comes with webbing that Spidey is trying to use to slow him down, so we know the two are fighting in the film, something that has not been revealed in the first trailer.
This is a bad one. There’s a running joke that Funko Pops are usually the spoiler toy, but in most of these cases, we’re seeing things like too-early looks at new costumes. This Hasbro spoiler reveals an entire storyline, which you wouldn’t even think was possible with just an action figure, but here we are.
There is a “back of the box” look as well, which has this description: “Spider-Man is surprised to see Hulk again after so much time has passed, and has no idea if Hulk will remember him. Will Hulk be friend or foe?” I mean, we have the answer to that, though I would imagine he would come around at some point. But whether he’s a huge part of the movie or just a one-off fight cameo, we don’t know.
This listing, despite being such a huge spoiler, is still up for preorders as we speak ($47!). I cannot imagine Marvel is pleased about this, given how secretive they’ve been about the movie and how many leaks they’ve tried to stamp out. At least, however, there have been no official leaks about who the much-hidden Sadie Sink character will be, as if suddenly Hasbro came out with a Jean Grey figure, for instance, that would be a whole new level of spoiler.
