FC Barcelona winger Roony Bardghji left training in tears on Monday afternoon, after suffering what is suspected to be a “serious” knee ligament injury.
This has been reported on by a number of reliable outlets, such as Mundo Deportivo and SPORT.
The Swede will now undergo tests to learn the extent of his knock. In the event of it being something like an ACL tear, he could be ruled out for a considerable amount – if not all – of the upcoming 2026/2027 season.
Roony’s injury will affect Barcelona squad planning
Joining last summer from FC Copenhagen for a few million dollars, Bardghji has been the subject of two surprise pieces of news over the last couple of days.
On Saturday, it was reported that both he and Marc Casado had been ordered not to travel to Udine with the rest of the squad, for a triangular series against Udinese and Nottingham Forest in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Cup.
Barça won the first match 1-0 against Forest, but a defeat to the home team by that same scoreline meant that the Italians kept the trophy in house.
Following the defeat, Flick pretty much confirmed that Casado and Roony were on the exit ramp, hence the decision to leave them back in Barcelona.
“The situation of Casado and Roony is not easy for me, but decisions have to be made. I spoke to them at the end of last season and also in England. I explained the situation and gave them my advice.” Flick said, in a nod to the Blaugrana’s preseason preparations at St. George’s Park.
While Casado has been linked with a permanent move away from FC Barcelona, Roony looked set to leave on loan. If his injury is serious, however, it is near impossible that any kind of deal will be made involving the 20-year-old.
This could effectively impact squad planning, though the arrival of Karim Adeyemi gives Flick additional options on the right while Raphinha could also return there.
Thus far in his Barcelona tenure, Roony Bardghji has amassed 28 appearances which yielded two goals. Sharing the position with arguably the greatest right winger in the world in Lamine Yamal, however, most of these outings have been made in short cameos off the bench.
