Charles Cioffi, a veteran character actor whose credits included the films Shaft, All the Right Moves and Klute, as well as such TV series as The X-Files, has died.
Cioffi died on May 22 of natural causes at his Marina del Rey, Calif., home, the actor’s wife, Anne, told TMZ. He was 90.
Born Charles Michael Cioffi on Oct. 31, 1935, in New York City, the actor got his start on stage before making his screen debut in 1969 in the CBS daytime drama Where the Heart Is. In 1971, Cioffi starred as Lt. Vic Androzzi opposite Richard Roundtree’s private detective John Shaft in Gordon Parks’ landmark crime drama Shaft.
Also in 1971, Cioffi starred as Peter Cable, a murderer stalking Jane Fonda’s call girl character, Bree Daniel, in the classic crime thriller Klute. The film earned Fonda an Oscar for Best Actress.
In the 1983 football drama All the Right Moves, Cioffi starred as Pop, the father of Tom Cruise’s Stefan Djordjevic.
In The X-Files, Cioffi played the recurring role of FBI Section Chief Scott Blevins, a top bureau official who assigned FBI Agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) to work with Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) on paranormal cases known as “The X-Files.” Cioffi appeared in the pilot episode and Episode 4 of The X-Files in Season 1 of the series in 1993, followed by appearances in two episodes of Season 4 in 1996 and two episodes of Season 5 in 1997.

Charles Cioffi Also Appeared In Starring Roles On Daytime Dramas
In additon to his film and primetime television work, Charles Cioffi appeared in recurrring role on the classic daytime dramas Another World (1979), Ryan’s Hope (1980), Days of Our Live (1990) and All My Children (1992-93).
Cioffi appeared in more than 100 screen projects throughout his career, with dozens of appearances on television. In addition to starring in a recurring role the police drama Get Christie Love! in 1974, he appeared as a guest actor on such series as Kojak (and three Kojak TV movies), Wonder Woman, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, Little House on the Prairie, Hawaii Five-O, Lou Grant, Taxi and The A-Team.
