Dolly Parton is one of the bestselling musical artists of all time, but like so many acts that have sold tens of millions – if not 100 million albums or more – much of her commercial heyday was back when the only way for people to listen to the music they loved was to hear it on the radio or buy an album or single. Parton was certainly part of the streaming revolution, though she never enjoyed the same level of success on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music as she did when it came to traditional record stores and radio.
Following her death only a few days ago at the age of 80 after a private battle with cancer, Parton’s albums and songs invade the music charts in the United Kingdom. Several of her full-lengths and compilations return to various rosters or rise to new peak positions, while a handful of her signature tunes become hits again as well. On one streaming-only ranking, Parton reaches the top 10 for the first time in her career just after her passing.
Dolly Parton Hits the Streaming Top 10 for the First Time
Diamonds & Rhinestones – Greatest Hits reenters the Official Albums Streaming chart at No. 4 this week. The U.K.-specific tally details the albums and EPs that earn the most plays on streaming sites throughout that nation, and as it breaks back onto the tally, the compilation hits a new high point and Parton soars to a never-before-seen peak as well. The superstar even manages to reach the top 10 on the roster for the first time.
Dolly Parton Has Only Charted Two Streaming Wins
Parton has only placed two projects on the Official Albums Streaming ranking, and Diamonds & Rhinestones is easily her highest-rising win. The Very Best Of brought her to the list for the first time and it peaked at No. 63, though it has proved to be a sturdy winner for the singer. That compilation has spent a total of 42 weeks somewhere on the roster. Diamonds & Rhinestones debuted on the streaming tally in January 2023 at No. 99 and then quickly disappeared. As it returns at No. 4, this period marks only its second ever on the ranking.
Dolly Parton Scores Her Sixth Top 10 Album
Diamonds & Rhinestones reaches a new peak on two U.K. charts this frame. In addition to its streaming surge, the compilation reenters the Official Albums chart at No. 6. That placement easily allows the set to surpass its previous No. 32 best, which it hit in December 2022.
The comeback gives Parton her sixth top 10 on the U.K.’s main albums ranking. She has also reached the competitive tier with Rockstar, Pure & Simple, Blue Smoke – The Best Of, Better Day and The Very Best Of.
Diamonds & Rhinestones Returns to Three More Sales Charts
Parton’s compilation simultaneously rebounds onto three purchase-focused rankings. Thanks to a sudden uptick in sales following her death, the superstar’s Diamonds & Rhinestones returns to the Official Physical Albums, Official Albums Sales and Official Album Downloads charts at Nos. 38, 40 and 43, respectively.
Dolly Parton Nearly Replaces Herself at No. 1
Diamonds & Rhinestones also surges from No. 7 to No. 2 on the Official Country Compilations chart, where it is blocked from another turn at the summit by another Parton bestseller. The Very Best Of reenters the list at No. 1, while yet another collection, The Essential, breaks back in at No. 3, just one space beneath its all-time high. Parton claims the entirety of the top three to herself.
Diamonds & Rhinestones may not rule this frame, but it has already spent 34 weeks at No. 1 during its 197-frame run. That includes a months-long stretch in charge after it first debuted several years ago.
