Dua Lipa’s third album Radical Optimism arrived in May 2024, and it was one of the most highly anticipated sets of that year. By that point, Lipa had made herself into one of the world’s biggest pop stars, as both of her previous full-lengths – her self-titled debut and its follow-up Future Nostalgia – produced a bevy of hit singles.
Radical Optimism did not live up to expectations in terms of commercial viability – compared to its predecessors – and in the United States, the project completely failed to produce a top 10 hit, a rare showing for the Grammy winner.
More than two years after it was released, “Training Season,” one of the promotional cuts from Lipa’s latest studio effort, has suddenly gone viral. This week, it becomes a very special hit for the singer long after its promotional run ended.
Dua Lipa Debuts on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Pop Songs Chart
“Training Season” brings Lipa to the Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart for the first time this week. The cut debuts at No. 5, immediately giving the superstar a top 10 hit on her inaugural visit.
The Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart ranks the most popular dance-pop tracks in the U.S. using a combination of consumption metrics. The tally is one of Billboard’s newer introductions, so it is not entirely shocking that Lipa, despite years of success with dance-oriented pop music, is only reaching it now.
“Training Season” Reaches a New Global Peak
At the same time that “Training Season” gets off to a top 10 start on the Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart, the single climbs to a new peak on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. This frame, the smash leaps from No. 20 all the way to No. 3.
“Training Season” is now tied with two other hits as Lipa’s second-highest-charting win on the worldwide ranking. “Levitating” and “Dance the Night” also stalled in third place, while “Cold Heart (PNAU Remix),” her team-up with Elton John, missed out on ruling by just one space in early 2022.
Dua Lipa’s Single Returns to Its Billboard Global 200 Peak
As “Training Season” reaches a new high on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., the track returns to its previously-established peak on the Billboard Global 200. The two rankings are compiled similarly, though the Billboard Global 200 includes consumption from the United States, while the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. does not.
“Training Season” rockets from No. 40 to No. 6 on the Billboard Global 200 this week. As it improves, the cut matches where it debuted in March 2024. The song remains the most recent of Lipa’s five top 10 hits on the tally.
“Training Season” also bounds back onto the Dance Streaming Songs chart, where it narrowly misses returning to the top 10. The single reenters the list of the most-played dance tracks on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music throughout the U.S. at No. 11 after once hitting No. 2.
Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” Is on the Rise Again
“Training Season” is growing in popularity as the latest years-old song to become part of a viral trend, but it is not Lipa’s only hit at the moment. This week, “Levitating” also gains ground on both worldwide lists.
The Future Nostalgia banger rises from No. 151 to No. 144 on the Billboard Global 200. On the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., it jumps from No. 129 to No. 117. If the pop cut can continue charting, the blockbuster will soon celebrate 300 frames on both tallies, though not at the same time.
