The offseason is a time to get down to the business of racing and McLaren is putting that into action with business deals that benefit both its Formula One and NTT IndyCar Series operations.

In IndyCar, Arrow McLaren announced a multi-year extension with Chevrolet as its engine manufacturer, a deal that shouldn’t surprise anyone because Honda is the other IndyCar engine supplier. It was after the 2017 Formula 1 season when then-Honda driver Fernando Alonso made some disparaging comments about the Japanese auto manufacturer in F1 after a very uncompetitive season.

When McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown was trying to put a full-time IndyCar team together, he wanted to do it with Honda but was rebuffed from Honda officials in Japan.

All of McLaren’s IndyCar efforts since then have come with Chevrolet. The announcement on October 6 reaffirms Arrow McLaren’s long-standing technical partnership.

It comes at a pivotal moment for both Arrow McLaren and Chevrolet as the series completes early testing phases for the new Dallara IR-28 chassis set to debut in 2028 competition. The next generation platform will introduce improved aerodynamic architecture, an upgraded power-to-weight ratio, new wing packages designed for better racing and overall improved safety systems — all areas where early manufacturer involvement is essential.

Since McLaren Racing entered the series full-time in 2020 with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports to become Arrow McLaren SP, the team and Chevrolet have built a deeply integrated technical program that positions both groups to capitalize on the next phase of IndyCar evolution.

“Our extension with Chevrolet is key to our overall goal of winning both the IndyCar championship and the Indy 500,” Brown said. “Over the past seven seasons, the team and Chevy have been working closely together through various developments, and the work now ahead of us with the 2028 chassis will be critical in determining our competitiveness. Mark Reuss, Eric Warren, Jim Campbell and everyone across the Chevy and GM organization are committed to executing at the highest level and share our absolute focus on winning. I’m excited for what’s to come with this strengthened relationship.”

Over the past seven seasons together, the Arrow McLaren and Chevrolet collaboration has achieved 14 Chevy-powered wins, 54 podiums and 13 pole awards. Chevy also secured three consecutive Manufacturers’ Championships from 2022–2024 and has produced 13 victories at the Indianapolis 500, the third-most by an engine manufacturer in the race’s 110-year history.

Through the 2026 season, Arrow McLaren led Chevy-powered teams in 11 of the 18 races with its top finishing driver. Christian Lundgaard was the only driver in the series to finish all laps of the 18-race schedule with Pato O’Ward just behind completing all but one lap this season, a statement of the reliability Arrow McLaren and Chevy are building together.

“The relationship we have with Chevy is the strongest it’s ever been, and the team is already looking forward to how we’re able to keep building on-track performance together, especially as we develop the new chassis for the 2028 season,” said Arrow McLaren Team Principal Tony Kanaan. “Long-term alignment with Chevrolet increases our stability and shared focus, and this partnership allows our engineers and Chevy’s engineers to have stronger collaboration during this period of major technical change.”

This extension arrives as Arrow McLaren prepares to welcome its new 2027 driver lineup of Pato O’Ward, Scott Dixon, and Felix Rosenqvist — a group that brings championship experience, continuity and proven race-winning capability to the next chapter of the Chevy–McLaren partnership.

“Arrow McLaren has been an important part of Chevrolet’s IndyCar program, and this extension reflects the strength of the technical relationship we’ve built together,” said Eric Warren, Vice President, Global Motorsports Competition, General Motors. “As the series moves toward the next generation of car and powertrain development, close collaboration between our engineers will be critical. We continue to share a clear objective with Arrow McLaren: to keep raising the performance of the Chevrolet package and compete for wins, championships and the Indianapolis 500.”

The Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team builds on McLaren Racing’s rich heritage, giving it a home in North America. Within the IndyCar Series, the team’s legacy includes three McLaren-powered Indianapolis 500 victories (1972, 1974, 1976), alongside McLaren Racing’s broader IndyCar total of 32 wins, 31 poles and 97 podium finishes.

Following a dominant run in the 1970s, McLaren Racing re-entered the IndyCar Series 40 years later with Indianapolis 500 entries in 2017 and 2019 with Fernando Alonso behind the wheel. In 2020, McLaren Racing solidified its full-season return through a partnership with Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports before securing majority ownership in 2021 and full ownership at the end of 2024.

Arrow McLaren operates out of the McLaren Racing Center (MRC) in Indianapolis.

Financial Giant Edward Jones Joins McLaren In Both F1 And IndyCar

The Chevrolet extension was preceded by the announcement of a multi-year partnership that brings Edward Jones and McLaren Racing together in both Formula One and IndyCar. That announcement was made on September 29.

It’s a new multi-year partnership naming Edward Jones the Official Private Wealth Management Partner of McLaren Racing, spanning both the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team and the Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team.

The agreement launches a long-term relationship between McLaren Racing and one of the most trusted financial services firms in North America.

Edward Jones’ activation begins within the 2026 Formula 1 season and expands to the Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team starting in 2027, giving the firm a year-round motorsports presence across two of the world’s premier motorsports platforms.

With Arrow McLaren, Edward Jones will serve as Primary Partner on the No. 6 Edward Jones Arrow McLaren Chevrolet entry at the 111th Running of the Indianapolis 500 and additional select races. Two weeks ago, six-time IndyCar Series Champion and 2008 Indianapolis 500 Winner Scott Dixon learned his Arrow McLaren Chevrolet would be the No. 6.

Through the partnership, Edward Jones, headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, will engage clients, communities and fans through experiences, storytelling and programming that highlight the values at the heart of both organizations: preparation, teamwork, resilience and performance. The relationship also includes co-branded content across McLaren Racing’s digital and social channels.

“We’re proud to become the Official Private Wealth Management Partner of McLaren Racing, bringing together two organizations with rich histories and a shared drive for innovation, performance and excellence,” said Hema Widhani, Principal and Chief Brand, Experience and Marking Officer, Edward Jones. “For more than a century, Edward Jones has helped clients pursue their goals through trusted relationships and personalized advice, generation after generation.

“Like McLaren Racing, we know success isn’t built in a single moment, but through preparation, discipline and decisions made over time. This partnership creates new opportunities to connect with clients and communities through a shared drive to achieve what’s possible.”

McLaren Racing competes in three racing series. The team competes in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship with McLaren Mastercard F1 drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, the NTT IndyCar with Arrow McLaren drivers Pato O’Ward, Scott Dixon, Felix Rosenqvist and Ryan Hunter-Reay, and F1 Academy with Driver Development Programme members Ella Lloyd and Ella Stevens.
