The girl group Katseye is in the middle of quite a turbulent and busy moment. The band originally started with six members, but in less than a year, two have taken a hiatus from activities, and for the moment, only four singers remain.
In a few days, Katseye’s Wild EP, the group’s third short collection, will arrive after much anticipation. Just days ago, Katseye reached new peaks on multiple Billboard charts with “Animal,” the Grammy-nominated act’s latest single, which is set to be featured on Wild. This frame, that tune falls on nearly every roster where it appears – a common occurrence for cuts that earn lofty debuts – but there is one tally where it not only climbs, but brings the vocalists to a new all-time high.
Katseye Reaches a New Global Chart Peak
“Animal” debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. last week. Now, the single improves one space to No. 11. That one-rung upward shift looks very different compared to what’s happening on the other three rankings where “Animal” launched last frame – and where it manages to hang on. The cut falls on the Billboard Global 200, Streaming Songs and the Billboard Hot 100 this period.
Katseye’s “Animal” Passes “Gabriela”
The No. 12 debut that “Animal” managed marked a new high for Katseye on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. – which measures worldwide streaming and sales activity and ranks the most popular tunes of all styles, while excluding consumption from the United States – but only by one space. “Gabriela” peaked at No. 13 last fall. Now, “Animal” pushes even higher, lifting Katseye’s career best to No. 11 and bringing the group within one rung of its first top 10 on the roster.
Ariana Grande Blocks Katseye From the Top 10
Katseye almost certainly would have scored its first top 10 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. if the timing had worked a little differently. Ariana Grande scores two new top 10s this week, both featured on her latest album Petal, which itself conquers the Billboard 200. The title track launches at No. 3, while “Kiss Me” is new at No. 10.
Katseye Debuts a New Single on the Pop Airplay Chart
Even as “Animal” slips on a number of rosters, it debuts on another in America. Katseye’s latest single launches at No. 27 on the Pop Airplay chart, which ranks the songs that receive the most plays on mainstream pop radio stations throughout the United States.
Katseye has now collected just three hits on the 40-space roster, and “Animal” currently sits in the middle of that group in terms of peak position. “Gabriela” climbed to an all-time high of No. 9 in late December of last year. A year prior, “Touch” spent 13 weeks on the ranking, but never soared any higher than No. 32.
Katseye Beats Ariana Grande on Pop Radio
While Grande may help stop Katseye from finally reaching the top 10 on one of Billboard’s most competitive global charts, “Animal” allows the group to beat the singer in another regard. As “Animal” kicks off its time on the Pop Airplay tally at No. 27, the song stands out as the most impressive of four debuts this frame.
Grande’s “Petal” opens at No. 31. “Me Chico” by DJ Goja, Melody and Jason Derulo starts much further south at No. 39, while “Normal,” the latest single from BTS, gets off to a lowly start in last place at No. 40.
