Taylor Swift has never attended the Emmy Awards. Until now — somewhat.
Host Mariska Hargitay recorded a sketch for the 78th Emmys in which she reprised her role as Law and Order: SVU detective Olivia Benson. Fans of the billionaire singer would know that Swift named one of her cats after this same Benson.
Hargitay assembled a crack SVU team — murder boards and everything — to investigate the only mystery that apparently mattered. Would Taylor Swift come to the Emmys?
Swift was technically nominated in several catgeories (foremost of which being Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded)) for her juggernaut Eras tour special. However, the time to show up for that would have been earlier this month at the Creative Arts Emmys, which she also skipped (and did not win).
The video made several tongue in cheek winks at the elaborate theorising that surrounds Swift’s every move. It was also chock full of Taylor Swift references and deep cuts, including Hargitay’s cameo in Swift’s 2015 “Bad Blood” video.
“I don’t think everything is a clue,” said a beige suited intern at the end of the video. “It is to the Swifties,” Hargitay replied. “I think what we’re going to be looking for is hiding in plain sight,” countered the intern, Swift the whole time.
Some more investigation revealed that Swift was not there because her husband Travis Kelce “has a work thing,” said work thing being the Kansas City Chiefs’ 2026 season opener against the Denver Broncos the previous evening. This was Kelce’s first game as Taylor Swift’s husband and Swift was spotted in the stands sitting next to Tom Cruise.
