Topline

President Donald Trump sported a Jos. A. Bank suit during his Nebraska rally Monday night, a more affordable change of pace from the custom Italian Brioni suits he is suspected of wearing along campaign trails and in the White House.

Key Facts

Photos from the rally in which Trump partially pulls back his jacket shows a Jos. A. Bank label on the inner jacket pocket.

Jos. A. Bank suits are made overseas in Asian markets like China and Bangladesh, menswear writer and frequent Trump style critic Derek Guy said in an X post, noting the suits feature an associate label called Joseph Abboud, which is made in the U.S.

The suit featured a navy blue jacket and pants alongside a white shirt and light blue tie, a shift from the red or red-patterned ties he usually dons.

The New York Times confirmed in 2016 that Trump wore Brioni in the leadup to the year’s presidential election, adding he favored suits from New York-based Martin Greenfield Clothiers.

Forbes has reached out to the White House for comment.

WHAT WE DON’T KNOW

It’s not clear whether Trump now prefers Jos. A. Bank suits as his wardrobe choice, and, if so, when he may have made the switch from Brioni.

Tangent

Trump’s rally made headlines Monday night after the president appeared to suggest letting Iran “take out” Los Angeles and San Diego. White House communications director Steven Cheung argued Trump was “clearly stating U.S. cities would have been threatened if a nuclear Iran hadn’t been stopped,” though California Gov. Gavin Newsom and several Democratic lawmakers have interpreted the remark as encouraging Iran to attack the cities or viewing them as small collateral for the Iran war.

Key Background

In his book, “Trump: Think Like a Billionaire,” Trump said Brioni supplied him suits for his reality TV series “The Apprentice,” adding, “I wear Brioni suits, which I buy off the rack.” Brioni had a shop in the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C., which closed in 2022 following a $375 million sale to CGI Merchant Group. The cheapest suits on Brioni’s website start at $5,500 and reach as high as $16,000. In comparison, Jos. A. Bank’s website lists suits for around $260, with clearance options going for less than $100. The expense behind Brioni’s suits are due to the items’ handcrafted features, top-tier and sometimes exclusive materials and personalized services for high-profile customers.
