When Ella Langley released her single “Choosin’ Texas” back in October 2025, there is no way the singer-songwriter could have predicted what the tune would go on to accomplish. “Choosin’ Texas” has not only helped bolster the popularity of country music in America, but beaten nearly every other popular track in history.
As the cut is once again counted as the most popular song in the nation, “Choosin’ Texas” breaks out of one of the most important ties formed during the decades-long tenure of the Billboard charts – and there may be no stopping it now.
Ella Langley Spends 20 Weeks at No. 1
“Choosin’ Texas” holds steady at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. As of this frame, the cut has spent 20 weeks in first place. That is a little less than half of the 45 frames it has racked up somewhere on the 100-space tally, which details the most popular tunes of any style in the United States.
“Choosin’ Texas” Is Only the Second 20-Week No. 1
“Choosin’ Texas” is only the second song in history to occupy the Billboard Hot 100 throne for 20 frames. Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” holds the all-time record with 22 stints at the summit, though that classic experienced a very different journey to that enormous sum than Langley’s hit.
“All I Want for Christmas Is You” debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 2000, but it did not work its way to No. 1 until nearly 20 years later, in December 2019. Since then, Carey’s holiday favorite has returned to the peak position every year, adding to its total bit by bit. That will almost certainly be the case again in December 2026 and perhaps January 2027, and there is no telling how many more weeks “All I Want for Christmas Is You” will eventually spend at No. 1 before it is no longer popular enough to rule — or Billboard changes how the roster is compiled.
Ella Langley Passes Two Historic Smashes
Last week, “Choosin’ Texas” was on the same level as two other non-holiday songs that had spent 19 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The first to do so was Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” which eventually featured Billy Ray Cyrus as well. Shaboozey later matched that historic run with his breakout win “A Bar Song (Tipsy).” Now, those two blockbusters are tied as the third-longest-running No. 1 hits in Billboard Hot 100 history. “Choosin’ Texas” moves ahead of both as it reaches its milestone twentieth frame on top.
“Choosin’ Texas” May Challenge Mariah Carey
“Choosin’ Texas” is showing no signs of slowing down, and the track could continue to reign on the Billboard Hot 100 for at least another week or two. Within a month, Langley may very well tie, and perhaps even beat Carey’s all-time performance.
At the rate that Americans are buying and streaming “Choosin’ Texas” and hearing it across a variety of radio formats, the smash may dominate for quite some time. This period, the cut holds at No. 1 on not only the Billboard Hot 100, but also the Streaming Songs, Hot Country Songs and Country Streaming Songs charts.
