Google said the Gemini app officially surpassed 1 billion monthly users, less than a month after the company reported 950 million monthly users in its latest earnings report.

Google said 63% of users directly speak to Gemini as opposed to typing prompts, noting busy parents are “43% more likely to use voice for everyday tasks.”

One in five interactions with Gemini involve screen sharing and live camera feeds, according to Google.

Apple users make up over 100 million of Gemini’s monthly active users, Google added, noting macOS users prompt around two times more frequently than other platforms.

Gemini’s growing user base further pits the AI assistant against OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which reached 1 billion monthly active users in May, according to multiple outlets, the first AI chatbot to hit the benchmark. While Anthropic’s Claude assistant has yet to match the sheer number of monthly active users notched by Gemini and ChatGPT, its growth has been white hot. As of the second quarter of this year, Claude’s 56 million global monthly active users represents a 640% spike year-over-year, Reuters reported.
