Toronto Blue Jays Vlad Guerrero Jr.’s Sparkling Career;

Guerrero Jr. has been with the Blue Jays organization since he signed with the team as an International free agent from the Dominican Republic in 2015.

The Blue Jays gave Guerrero Jr. a $3.9 million signing bonus.

Guerrero Jr. is such a good slugger, he won the 2023 All Star Home Run Derby in Seattle.

Vlad Guerrero Jr. is the son of Vlad Guerrero Sr., who was a tremendous Hall of Fame player with power, speed, and outstanding arm strength.

Clearly, his son has inherited those skills.

Guerrero Jr.s uncle, Wilton Guerrero, also played Major League Baseball,

Now 27-years-old, Guerrero Jr., who is often called “Vladdy” was born in Montreal.

The Blue Jays awarded Guerrero Jr. for his tremendous play by signing him to a 14-year, $500 million contract which will run from 2026-2039.

As baseballreference notes, Guerrero Jr., won’t be eligible for Major League free agency until 2040.

Guerrero Jr. has been an All Star six times, from 2021 until this year. He won Silver Slugger Awards in 2021 and 2024.

This year has been a tremendous challenge for “Vladdy.”

As of the start of play September 8, Guerrero Jr. had hit only eight home runs. Ironically, all of Guerrero Jr.’s home runs have come on the road.

While there are less than three weeks remaining in the season, Guerrero Jr. has hit better in the month of September.

That said, Guerrero Jr. won’t come anywhere close to the 48 home runs and 111 runs he drove in during2021 A a spectacular, 2021 All Star season.

Guerrero Jr. has been somewhat inconsistent in his home run production since that massive 2021 season.

This season, baseballreference.com shows Guerrero Jr. making only eight fielding errors in 901 chances as of the start of play September 8, which is outstanding.

Guerrero Jr. has been known to play third base occasionally, with the most recent occurrence being in 2024, when he played third base in 12 games.

Guerrero Jr. has also served as the Designated Hitter in the Blue Jays lineup. However, those instances are rare, with only 15 such appearances this season.

With lightning quick hands and feet, Guerrero Jr. has outstanding range at first base. He is lithe and highly coordinated in his quick first step, and movements to the ball.

This old scout believes Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vlad Guerrero Jr. is on the cusp of winning his second American League first base Gold Glove Award.
