F1 Standings 2026 After The Italian Grand Prix In Monza

Andrea Kimi Antonelli produced a sensational comeback drive to take a home win at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza.

Having started way back in 19th place due to an engine penalty, the Mercedes youngster worked his way up through the field as the 53-lap race progressed.

Midway through the race, a virtual safety car triggered by Lance Stroll’s stoppage played right into the 20-year-old’s favor, allowing him to pit from second place for fresh medium tires while his teammate George Russell, who was leading at the time, stayed out on worn hards.

In final stages, Antonelli caught up to a slowing Russell and charged ahead with only four laps to go, eventually snatching a remarkable win to become the first Italian to triumph in Monza since 1966.

“Unbelievable,” said Antonelli after the race. “I’m so happy and I could never have imagined to be here today but we managed to pull it off and I’m really happy.

“It’s a dream coming true.”

Russell, who was on the brink of a third win of the season, had to settle for second place, finishing nearly four seconds off the pace of Antonelli.

Max Verstappen rounded out the podium in third for Red Bull – his fifth podium finish of the year.

Further back, the McLaren pair of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri netted fourth and fifth respectively, while Lewis Hamilton brought home Ferrari’s only points of the day with a sixth-place finish. His teammate Charles Leclerc crashed heavily out of the race on lap 2, but thankfully he walked away unharmed.

Alpine’s Pierre Gasly, who took a surprising first pole position of his career a day before, lost ground early in the race and ended up in seventh.

Arvid Lindblad’s Racing Bulls took eighth place ahead of Franco Colapinto in the second Alpine, with Yuki Tsunoda scoring the final point in 10th.

After this round, Antonelli extends his championship lead to 66 points over teammate Russell, with Hamilton trailing in third – 76 points behind the leader.

On the constructors’ front, Mercedes is sitting pretty at the top with 468 points – a solid 122 points ahead of their closest challengers Ferrari and 181 points clear of the defending champions McLaren.
